 Starring Todd Doldersum, Sean Armstrong and Dave Doldersum The deadliest arts of the Orient are now in the hands of a messenger! Another absurdist mini-movie. A while ago Todd called, laughing at himself (as usual) and described to me essentially what you see here. I was originally going to play the part of Unlucky Bastard, until I realized I wouldn’t be able to act and hold the camera at the same time. So I drafted Sean Armstrong (who showed up thinking he was just going to crew the thing) remembering his cameo in Robocop: Prime Directives as nosy Xploitation Net correspondent Vaughn Krass (a part I wrote for him). Sean’s actually a gifted actor, and I’d say he missed his calling, except that he works as a boom op and sound recordist on big Hollywood movies like Dawn of the Dead and Cinderella Man, where he makes more money in a week than I probably see in a year. Plus they feed him. His experience did come in handy when the location audio turned out to be unusable, thanks to some construction going on across the street, and we wound up looping the whole thing. Speaking of sound, I was glad to get a chance to use the famous “Wilhelm Scream” sound effect, made popular by sound designer Ben Burtt, who put it in all the Indiana Jones and Star Wars movies.
